Memory
Is Power

We are reclaiming narrative
power through technology,
art, and community.

Kinfolk Tech is a nonprofit using immersive technology, public art, and community-led design to help displaced and excluded communities tell their own stories—and shape their own legacies.

We believe every community deserves the tools to preserve its past and imagine its future. Through co-creation and cutting-edge storytelling, we transform memory into a force for justice, belonging, and possibility.

our history

Born in New York. Built for
Every Community.

Kinfolk Tech began with a bold question: what if monuments served the people? Founded in New York City, we set out to reimagine public memory—putting communities in control of what’s remembered and how.

What started as a local vision has grown into a national platform for storytelling, civic imagination, and collective memory. From digital landmarks to participatory installations, our work transforms both public space and cultural narratives.

We exist because too many stories have been buried. We’re here to bring them back—and build a future where they can’t be erased again.

Our Vision

Zones of Imagination

In an effort to help our partners and communities re-dream capitalism, oppression, and white supremacy, we are exploring the following ideas.

Memory Justice

Reclaiming and preserving cultural histories through community storytelling and archives to ensure marginalized stories and experiences are documented and passed down to future generations. This zone of imagination includes active efforts to protect historical records and cultural knowledge that have been systematically erased or suppressed.

Digital Justice

Fighting for equitable access to technology, while ensuring communities maintain sovereignty over their own data and digital resources. This zone of imagination emphasizes the importance of communities having control over how their information is collected, used, and shared in digital spaces.

Collective Power

Represents the strength found in community-led efforts to preserve and reclaim public spaces through collaborative mapping, while centering Indigenous sovereignty and rights to land. This zone of imagination recognizes that sustainable community-building must be rooted in collective decision-making and shared resources.

Reparations

Holding powerful institutions accountable for historical and ongoing harms, while working toward generational healing and restoration for communities that have experienced systematic oppression. This zone of imagination acknowledges that true healing requires both accountability and material change.

Radical Futures

Envisions sustainable, liberatory futures for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and queer communities, moving beyond traditional power structures to imagine new worlds grounded in lived experiences. This zone of imagination prioritizes the leadership, wisdom, and experiences of communities that have historically been marginalized to dream up and build a future that works for everyone, not just a select few.
