Preserving Cultural
Narratives Through
Art + Technology

The Community Memory Fellowship (CMF) is Kinfolk Tech's flagship cultural program, supporting Artist Fellow and a Researcher Fellow pairings to build augmented reality monuments and collect community stories rooted in local history and living memory.

The 2026–2027 cohort will be based in BROOKLYN, NY and is part of OURCHIVES, Kinfolk Tech's campaign marking the nation's 250th anniversary by centering the stories official commemorations leave out: displacement, people power, mutual aid, and collective imagination.

Each pair will develop a monument concept tied to one of the following themes:

- Making Home and Cultivating Belonging
- Building People Power
- Creative Culture for Survival
- Dreaming and Being Otherwise

Moving from concept through prototyping, production, and culminating in a public showcase in their community.

"Something I've walked away from this experience with is the excitement that every time I meet a Black person that isn't like me, it's liberating. It shows me that there is another way to be. I want more of us to understand that."
